Discover These Under-Radar Honeymoon Destinations

I see honeymooners choosing the same dream destinations all the time. Don't get me wrong; there are thousands of reasons why many couples choose Greece, Italy, France, or Tahiti. All are iconic romantic destinations and will continue to be. But what if you want to take the road less traveled? What if you and your sweetie want to do something a bit different, perhaps a little more adventurous or simply unexpected? Plenty of unique honeymoon destinations will give you the same romantic feel and give you Instagram cred! It's time to discover these under-the-radar romantic destinations.

Do you love the idea of Florence or Rome but want to avoid the crowds? How about giving Verona a try?

Verona is a city devoted to undying love, which is perfect for a honeymoon couple. It's close to Venice and Lake Garda, and Verona exudes charm and grace. Famous for Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Verona has lots to offer anyone planning a romantic getaway. Beautiful Romanesque and Medieval architecture, rolling hills, and a thriving food and wine scene.

Jessie's Verona recommendations Vista Palazzo, Hotel Gabbia D'Oro, and NH Collection Palazzo Verona.

Does the Amalfi Coast call your name, but the price cause you to hang up the phone? Check out Puglia, Italy.

If you want the coastal experience of the Amalfi Coast but with an authentic vibe, Puglia is the perfect spot for you! Puglia is known as the "Maldives of Italy" due to its stunning clear turquoise waters. The Apulia region of Italy lies opposite Amalfi, fronting Croatia and Montenegro across the Adriatic Sea. It stretches down from Bari, the capital, to the "heel of the boot." Italians choose Puglia for their quick summer getaways. You will find white-washed villages, secret swimming coves, unlimited seafood, and classic Trulli architecture.

Jessie recommends Masseria Bagnara, Furnirussi Tenuta, and La Peschiera.

Do you want a far-flung destination that won't break the bank? You could look at Vietnam or Cambodia; both are exotic and romantic, and money goes far in these countries.

Vietnam

Sun-soaked and culture-rich, Vietnam has everything newlyweds could want in a honeymoon destination. You will find relaxing spas, stunning beaches, unique adventures, and delicious food. You will get an urban feel in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Sink your toes into the calm, gentle waters of Con Dao Island and Phu Quoc, or find your zen in the serene hills of Mai Chau. It's also perfectly positioned for a country-hopping adventure and pairs easily with neighboring Cambodia.

Jessie recommends Amanoi, Six Senses Nihn Van Bay, and An Lam Retreats Nihn Van Bay.

Cambodia

Cambodia is endowed with unearthly beauty, making it an ideal romantic destination. You can take in the coastline along the Gulf of Thailand or explore while cruising the mighty Mekong River. Cambodia melds Cambodian, French, and Chinese cultures and is home to many must-see wonders. The most renowned is Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious complex; the Buddhist shrine dates to the 12th Century and offers spectacular architecture and carvings everywhere. If your dream honeymoon includes lazy days soaking up vitamin D, don't worry. Cambodia is home to private, idyllic islands that offer powdery soft white sand, azure waters, and luxurious resorts.

Jessie recommends Song Saa Private Island, Amansara, and Shinta Mani Wild.

Do you want to experience wine country, fjords, hiking, and adventure during your honeymoon and need to figure out where you can go? Well, my friends, you need to consider New Zealand seriously.

The stunning terrains of New Zealand are the perfect setting to celebrate your love for honeymooners who want a unique and adventurous without sacrificing luxury. With the untouched beaches, mystical volcanic landscapes on the northern island, and the iconic mountains and glaciers on the south island, you will never get bored! When you also consider that both islands offer top-notch vineyards, New Zealand is a destination that will thrill many couples.

Jessie recommends Otahuna Lodge, Wharekauhau, and the Farm at Cape Kidnappers.

Do you want Greece's mystique, history, and luxury but want to avoid the crowds of other vacationers? It would be best if you considered Croatia or Turkey. You get all the history, romance, and culture with half the tourists and a price.

Croatia

Croatia possesses an ideal spot along the Adriatic Sea across from Italy, at the intersection of Central and Southeast Europe. This friendly Mediterranean country offers romance at every turn, with pristine beaches, captivating architecture throughout ancient cities, and exquisite wilderness over its vast country. Croatia manifests a rich history charmed by its many neighbors while remaining wholly unique and immediately recognizable. "Game of Thrones" has introduced people to the wonders of Croatia, so you need to discover charming Croatia before everyone else does!

Jessie recommends Villa Dubrovnik, Grand Park Hotel Rovinj, and Boutique Hotel Alhambra.

Turkey

Turkey is a transcontinental country, with part located in Southeast Europe, while the majority lies in Western Asia. Turkey has an immense cultural heritage due to being home to countless civilizations like the Assyrians, Thracians, Greeks, and Armenians. It is currently home to 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Two of the seven World Wonders of the Ancient World also live there, the Temple of Artemis and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. Turkey offers an unforgettable and truly unique honeymoon experience. Float over the fairy chimneys in a hot air balloon in Cappadocia; bathe in the thermal waters of the travertine Pamukkale. Or shop in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.

Jessie recommends Amanruya, Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus, and Museum Hotel Cappadocia.

Do you adore going to Vail and snuggling up in front of a roaring fire after a day spent playing in the snow? Snow bunnies will love Lapland, Finland!

With the air so crisp and experiences so thrilling, there's good reason to snuggle a little closer in Finland. Lapland is Finland's most sparsely populated area northern region, and it borders Sweden, Norway, Russia, and the Baltic Sea. A honeymoon in Lapland will allow you to discover Aurora Borealis by dogsled, snowmobile, or reindeer sleigh. Imagine watching the lights dance above your head as you sip hot chocolate in your glass igloo. Lapland is one of the most romantic places in the world, and you are virtually guaranteed lots of privacy; very few people visit Lapland.

Jessie recommends the Arctic TreeHouse Hotel, Apukka Resort, and the Glass Resort.

Do you worship the sun? If yes, then you have spent some time in the Caribbean. If you are looking for a stunning Caribbean Island with tons of culture, check out Colombia.

If music, dancing, gorgeous seasides, big city excitement, and fantastic sounds like your dream honeymoon, Colombia is the perfect destination. And the best part? It's super inexpensive; Colombia is one of the most budget-friendly destinations in the world! From Cartagena's lovely white sand beaches to the bustling mountaintop city of Medellin to the dense Andes peaks & coffee provinces, there is an abundance of ways to keep you engaged.

Jessie recommends Casa San Agustin, Las Islas, and Sofitel Baru Calablanca Beach Resort.

If you want to take the less-traveled honeymoon road, these unique destinations will give you the same feelings of romance and luxury as the more famous honeymoon destinations. Still, you will not have the crowds associated with the more iconic honeymoon locations. These are the under-the-radar honeymoon destinations.
