As much as I love summer, I can't stand the heat. As a redhead, I burn too severely to enjoy the heat. But I still like to travel during the summer because my husband, a professor, and boys are out of school. So I am always looking for places we can go that will keep me from catching fire. Here are my favorite places to beat the heat.
Canada
When you think of Canada, you likely don't think of balmy summer nights (and there's a reason for that!), but some regions get warm. Despite warm temperatures (think the mid-70s, sometimes the 80s), the beautiful sights will take your mind off the weather. I adore Vancouver; the city is gorgeous, and there is much to do in and around it. Banff is a perfect place to escape due to its perfect temps, the brilliant sun, and the renowned sparkling glacial-fed blue lakes. Montreal sits on an island in the Sint Lawrence River; you can experience the city's culture, shopping, and fine dining.
Aruba
Hear me out; I promise Aruba is a great spot to escape the heat. Aruba is a desert island (yes, there are lots of cacti), so the temperature might be high; it is dry heat so the humidity won't be an issue. Aruba has stolen honeymooners' hearts with miles of white sand beaches, perfect turquoise seas, and more sunfilled days than any Caribbean island.
